Annapolis is home to four Declaration of Independence signers whose homes still exist today. It is also the home of the Naval Academy. Annapolis' city plan originated from the famous Sir Christopher Wren and was implemented by Governor Nicholson. He did such a fine job that he was sent to Williamsburg to design that city. Some of the great places and sights to visit include:
Also in the downtown Annapolis area, you will find great shops. The City Dock and Market is a fun place to get a quick snack and refreshments. Plan to spend time at the Naval Academy and enjoy the sights and sounds of a heralded tradition with the midshipmen. Don't
miss the Maryland Avenue Shopping District. This block is the
" living history of American shop keeping" and one
of the last bastions of small, independent, quality, and specialty
shops. Some of our favorites shops in the historic district include:
After all of this, make sure you spend time just enjoying the friendly people. Spend some time near or on the water, and take a stroll through this quaint little city. Another great source of information on what to do, what to see, and where to get it in Annapolis can be found at HometownAnnapolis.com. Hometown Annapolis features upcoming events and stories on Annapolis as well as news and weather. If you plan to stay for several days drive out to London Town, a National Historic Landmark on the South River near Annapolis. This site is the center of a major archaeological exploration in search of Tidewater history and the Lost Town of London. Woodland Gardens offer native and exotic species and introduce visitors to plants discovered by colonial botanists. Subscribe to our free and extremely informational newsletter.
