Located in the heart of Churchill's Grove at 1806 National Ave., the Daly Family Home is thought to be the oldest home on a beautiful tree lined Avenue of historic Rockford mansions. This imposing Georgian colonial residence will be transformed by the area's top Interior Design and decorating professionals , and will be open for viewing by the public May 3 through May 18, 2008. Also at the Showcase Home Tour shop the Fabulous Final Touches Boutique featuring the work of local artists and many unique items for the home as well as jewelry and accessories. The "Under One Roof" Designer Showcase Home is available for private corporate events in the evenings.

OAKLAND, CA Eleven captivating private gardens in Oakland, Berkeley, and Piedmont are featured on the 22nd annual Secret Gardens of the East Bay tour.
Beginner and master gardeners alike will find unique solutions to garden challenges. Many of these gardens exquisitely capture and reflect the architectural interest and history of the home. The abundance of art in the gardens will delight and inspire.
Some highlights of this year’s tour include:
The home garden of a Berkeley artist/landscaper with a most distinctive style showcasing creative rock and concrete formations, fountains and sculptures, mosaics and incredible plant combinations.
A snazzy modern look to a ranch house with swimming pool and landscaping reminiscent of Roberto Burle Marx .
An amazing oasis out by the zoo with an endless array of enchanting garden “rooms”, a fabulous swimming pool and an incredible view.
An outdoor deck design with fireplace and kitchen perfect for garden parties.
The grandeur of a Julia Morgan house with outdoor fresco paintings elegantly complemented by an expansive lush green lawn and perennial borders.
As visitors tour these striking outdoor spaces, they will be able to meet and talk with many of the noted designers who created this year’s featured gardens. Among them are Shirley Watts, Sherry Merciari, Al Hill , Michael McFadden, Suzanne Arca, Tamar Carson & Rogelio Giron, Bobbi Feyerabend & Georgia Madden, Keeyla Meadows, and Raul Zumba.
Tickets for the tour are $50.00 per person and include a boxed lunch, a collectible catalog with detailed descriptions of each garden, a map with directions for the self-guided tour. This year, we are pleased to invite you to lunch on the grounds of the historic Matilda Brown Home, now a part of the Park Day School campus at 370-43rd Street, Oakland.
We will hold an outdoor marketplace offering garden-related wares in our beautifully landscaped grounds. Ticketed visitors may attend several entertaining and informative lectures by local garden design experts.

Historic Mobile Preservation Society was founded in 1935 as a grassroots membership group dedicated to preserving the tangible links to the past for the benefit of present and future generations. HMPS's mission includes curating the Oakleigh Historic Complex, a 19th-century museum and archives campus in the heart of one of Mobile's most beautiful historic districts.
HMPS is a Forum member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation . HMPS works closely with the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, which is a corporate member of HMPS, as well as the Mobile Historic Development Commission and several of its board members also serve as commissioners of that city department's advisory board. HMPS utilizes the resources of the Alabama Historical Commission, the state agency charged with oversight of state-owned historic properties and administration of various state and federal grants and offers valuable professional assistance. HMPS also relies on the excellent resources available at the Alabama Department of Archives and History for research.
Year-round activities include field trips to historic locations, guest speakers, workshops, parties, concerts and social gatherings. Ongoing research and document and material preservation are part of the organization's ongoing work.
HMPS members receive free admission to general tours of Oakleigh Historic Complex as well as free and reduced admission to selected activities throughout the year. Members also receive a subscription to Landmark Letter and qualify for discounted registration to the annual National Trust for Historic Preservation conference.
HMPS holdings of historic materials include an impressive collection of 19th century art, including the magnificent Thomas K. Sully portrait of "Miss Walton of Florida," the formal debut portrait of Octavia Walton LeVert, once known as "the belle of the South." The Mitchell Archives serves as a research facility for historians, scholars, students, researchers, history buffs and the lovers of Southern literature and historic photography. The centerpiece of this collection is a 2,000-plus print of circa 1900 dry-plate glass negatives in the William E. Wilson Collection. At the top of this column is one of Wilson's Mardi Gras parade photographs circa 1902.

The Orchard Hill Designer Showhouse at Old Westbury Gardens will be a first of its kind, set in the charming home of the late Peggie Phipps Boegner, daughter of John S. Phipps, the owner of the fabled property comprising woodlands, lakes, statuary and indescribably beautiful gardens nestled among 200 acres. Mrs. Boegner lived at Orchard Hill on the Old Westbury Gardens estate for many decades until her death in late 2006. The house, which will be beautifully updated and transformed in its traditional mode by more than 20 of the country’s and the area’s most accomplished interior designers and decorative artists, had never before been open to the public. The Showhouse will be launched with a Gala Preview Evening on Friday, May 2nd and will be open to visitors daily from Saturday, May 3rd to Sunday, June 15th for an admission fee of $30. Proceeds from the event will benefit Old Westbury Gardens.

The largest event of this type in the Southeast, the Decorators' Show House & Gardens continues to be an Atlanta institution, attracting significant attention in the media and the community at large. All people who tour the house (up to 15,000 in the last few years) receive a program produced by Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, who also features the House in their September issue. In addition to radio and television advertising, the project is also highlighted with articles in the Atlanta Journal & Constitution, Better Homes & Gardens, and Kitchens & Baths, among others. The project was also ranked one of the top ten show houses in the country by the New York Times Co.’s About.com in 2006. Attracting designers from all over the Southeast, this is one of the oldest and most successful fund raising projects in the country. The Show House will be open to the public from April 28 to May 20, 2007.
This high-profile fundraiser has been a major component of ASA’s contribution to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra since 1971 and continues to place the symphony and their sponsors in the community spotlight. All funds raised contribute to the Symphony’s Learning Community, which includes family concerts, the Talent Development Program (a lesson scholarship program for young African-American and Latino musicians), and Symphony Street Concerts for young children.
